Functional Skills Maths & English at Pink Academy

Supporting Every Learner to Succeed

At Pink Academy, we understand that every learner's journey is different. That's why we are proud to offer Functional Skills Maths and English alongside our vocational qualifications, helping young people develop the essential skills they need for further education, employment and everyday life.

Whether a learner has previously struggled in a traditional classroom environment, has an EHCP, SEN needs, or simply requires a more personalised approach, our supportive team is here to help them achieve success.

What Are Functional Skills?

Functional Skills qualifications are nationally recognised qualifications in Maths and English that help learners develop practical skills they can use in everyday life, further education and the workplace.

These qualifications are ideal for learners who:

  • Have not yet achieved a GCSE Grade 4 (C) or above

  • Need additional support with Maths or English

  • Prefer a more practical and personalised learning approach

  • Are preparing for employment, apprenticeships or further education

Initial Assessments and Individual Learning Plans

Every learner begins their journey with a comprehensive initial assessment and diagnostic assessment.

Using NCFE's Skills Builder and FAST (Functional Assessment and Skills Together) platform, we can identify:

  • The learner's current working level

  • Existing strengths and areas for development

  • Gaps in knowledge and understanding

  • Appropriate starting points for learning

  • Individual support requirements

This information allows us to create a personalised learning plan tailored to each learner's needs and abilities. NCFE's assessment tools are designed to provide detailed diagnostic information and support learner progression from their starting point.

Identifying Additional Support Needs

Our initial assessments can often highlight patterns of learning difficulties that may not have previously been identified.

While assessments do not diagnose conditions such as dyslexia, ADHD or other learning differences, they can help us recognise when a learner may benefit from additional support, specialist strategies or further assessment.

This early identification allows us to put the right support in place from the very beginning, helping learners build confidence and achieve their potential.

A Personalised Approach

At Pink Academy, we believe that no two learners are the same.

Our Functional Skills programme includes:

  • Small class sizes

  • Individual learning plans

  • Regular progress reviews

  • Ongoing learner support

  • Practical and engaging learning activities

  • Exam preparation and confidence building

  • Progress tracking throughout the learner journey

NCFE's Skills Builder platform allows us to monitor progress, set targets and track learner development throughout their programme.

Functional Skills and Vocational Learning

Learners can study Functional Skills Maths and English alongside:

Beauty Qualifications

  • Level 1 Beauty

  • Level 2 Beauty Therapy

Nail Qualifications

  • Level 1 Nail Services

  • Level 2 Nail Technology

Combining vocational learning with Maths and English helps learners remain engaged while working towards qualifications that support their future career goals.

EHCP and SEN Support

Pink Academy provides a supportive environment for learners with:

  • Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs)

  • Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)

Our smaller learning environment enables us to provide personalised support while helping learners develop independence, confidence and employability skills.
